Jan 11: Sometimes I wish my diet was strictly vegetarian so I wouldn't be tempted to eat at Duff's Famous Wings.
There's nothing more fattening than bowls of wings and fries, televisions showing Leafs' Hockey, Rock Lacrosse and NFL playoffs, and of course, beer.
A sign warns pregnant women not to drink, but should be accompanied by one warning home-based freelance web designers not to gorge on artery-clogging food.
I wonder if there's a market for tofu wings?
Jan 4: We finally watched The
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and at least agreed it was
an epic trilogy, but I liked it best. It took an army of artists to produce,
which many fans believe was worth the effort. I look forward to seeing extended
versions of all three films for more background story and character development.
Years ago, my dad bought me the books from a garage sale, which I never
read. Ironically, it'll probably take less time to read than the movies.
For now, I think The Two Towers was the strongest of the series because
it never felt prolonged like the King's ending. Clearly, this franchise
should be considered the greatest ever, surpassing the original Star Wars
and even the Godfather.
Jan 1: Having had a couple of "accidents" as a result of too much drinking on New
Year's Eve, and briefly giving up the sauce for two years, I can understand
those who've decided to stay sober.
Like being vegetarian or gay, it's a lifestyle that should be accepted, not ridiculed.
Web Design:
A new member of our Webstandards.TO group asked for inspirational sites to help overcome writer's block.
The Toronto Star's Editorial
cartoon couldn't have expressed my opinions better. Although a successful
business-woman, she has no political experience. I repeat, NO political
experience. Running an auto parts corporation is light years away from
standing in Parliament as leader of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition, or conceivably,
Prime Minister. She is portraying herself as a single mother, young, and
a fresh face on the national scene, but her campaign will be heavily scripted,
not unlike California's new Governor. Remember the downfall of Kim Campbell?
What's scary is that among a Western politician who believes Canada's place
is firmly up America's ass, and a former provincial cabinet minister who
recently lost his seat, Stronach could appear the sane choice. However,
with the Liberals expected to win a spring election, could she handle the
bitter disappointment of losing and sitting in Opposition for four long years?
It is very coincidental that I started reading McQuaig's latest book during
the 2004 special Summit of the Americas in Mexico (and the World
Social Forum in India). Many Latin
American leaders are openly critical of the International Monetary Fund's
tough
economic policies that have battered the region. Our Prime Minister
met with the U.S. President for a whopping twenty minutes and hailed it
as a breakthrough in communications between the two countries. The way pundits
are gushing about it, you'd think Canada's iron curtain just fell.
Of Interest:
There are many intriguing documentaries on the big and small screens to
see. Both The Corporation and
Fog of War have received
excellent reviews, and starting next month, the CBC
Cinema Real Documentary Festival. Highlights include StartUp.com and
My Student Loan. Blockbusters are fun to watch, but aren't always intellectually stimulating
as independent film-making.
Projects:
A potential client opted not to redesign their site. Instead of my work going
to waste, I've posted the first proposal for all
to see and critique. An explanation follows shortly.
