Mar 22: Cowards!
Sunday was apparently a night of escapist television with CBC showing the animated Chicken Run, followed by History's documentary, The Great Escape - The Canadian Story, and the Hollywood movie. Some war films are so compelling, repeated viewing should be mandatory.
On Friday, the York University Squash Club held a tournament at Glendon's athletic facilities. We took full advantage of the four international squash courts over a three-hour period. I played four matches (two games each), winning two. By the end, I was both exhausted and exhilarated from playing the best squash in a long time. The courts are light-years ahead from what I'm used to playing on. If only French wasn't such a low priority during public school, I could have studied at Glendon and became a better, more consistent player.
Mar 12: Gary Bettman, you are an incompetent commissioner of professional hockey and have done more to damage the sport than fighting ever will. With the exception of American football, hockey is more brutal, antagonistic, and unsportsmanlike today as players' physical size and toughness have become the skills teams covet. Ken Dryden writes about the history of hockey, and the need for change.
I don't know who to blame more for skyrocketing prices, ticket agents, the venues, or musicians. Given a choice between spending around $100 to see Rush's 30th Anniversary Tour or buying a previously-owned DVD of their concert in Rio, I choose the latter.
Although my friends have expressed no interest in seeing upcoming action flicks, Hellboy, Punisher, and Spiderman 2, I'm excited.
