• Oct 24: If Kerry wins the upcoming American election, expect stocks of paper shredder companies to spike as the Republican administration hurries to cover their tracks.
• Oct 17: I've written before about a shopping centre opening close to home. One of the restaurants offered free dinners to promote its' new flagship location with all tips and donations going to Yellow Brick House, a non-profit organization providing emergency shelter, counselling and education for women and their children. The hearty meals included an appetizer and dessert, and although their liquor license is pending, I'm looking forward to spending a few nights watching hockey the projection screen television.
• Oct 13: We decided to take a short vacation to the Kitchener-Waterloo region for Oktoberfest. This annual beer-swilling event has been on my to-do list forever, and since Sandra studied at Wilfrid Laurier University, she was eager to return. Briefly, our visit covered the Joseph Schneider Haus Museum and Gallery, Victoria Park, Woodside National Historic Site, St. Jacobs Country, and the Thanksgiving Day Parade (under chilly conditions).
• Oct 8: What a strange, power-tripping week it's been. Parliament was not even a day old, when the opposition parties began jockeying to score political points. By exerting their influence to affect changes to the throne speech, they nearly toppled the minority government. Only the NDP seems to grasp that responsibility and sanity trump power and ego.
• Oct 4: A recent Globe article unintentionally pointed out the hypocrisy of Alberta's Premier.

  "[He] insisted that Washington's continued trade ban has been because of politics, not science or health, since the mad cow crisis began in May 2003 with the discovery of a single case of the disease in northern Alberta."

  Would that be the same "politics" keeping his province from supporting the Kyoto Protocols?

Projects:

• To support my dad's new book, we've traveled to London and Kingston for television interviews and distribution deals with local stores. A quick turn-around leaves little time to play tourist, but with trips to Windsor and Ottawa likely, we're becoming well acquainted with highway 401.
